California legislators will have the opportunity to vote on AB 1240, a bill that would expand the breakfast in the classroom program. Breakfast in the classroom gives kids that come to school hungry access to meals during the first few minutes of class on a school day.
We wanted to share the following from the No Kid Hungry website:
On average, students who eat school breakfast have been shown to achieve 17.5% higher scores on standardized math tests and attend more days of school, which makes them more likely to graduate from high school. And yet currently barely half of the kids in California who need it are actually eating school breakfast. This is unacceptable.
AB 1240 would increase access to school breakfast by requiring schools to implement practical changes that integrate breakfast into the school day and make the most efficient use of existing state and federal funds.
