May is CalFresh Awareness Month!
CalFresh, also known as SNAP or Food Stamps, is not only the cornerstone of our nation’s food assistance system, it’s the model of what a successful public program looks like.
Join us as we celebrate and spread awareness of this incredible program that is our best tool for fighting hunger in our country!
CalFresh Awareness Fact of the Day:
According to the County of San Diego Health & Human Services Agency statistics, the average amount of time a person in San Diego stays on CalFresh is two years.
Spreading the word can be as easy as a social media post. The Hunger Coalition has created a special post for every business day in May. We’ll update this page with the post of the day, so check back every Monday through Friday in May for your daily social media post!

2019 #CalFreshChallenge | Monday, May 13 - Friday, May 17
We invite you to spread awareness and learn first hand what food insecurity looks and feels like by taking the #CalFreshChallenge. During the challenge, you are invited to eat for 1, 3, or 5 days on the average CalFresh budget of $4.07/day. We encourage you to share your experience on social media because there is no better way to understand food insecurity than to have your own lived experience.
