Summer Meals

All children 18 and under may go to a site and receive free meals on summer weekdays without questions or paperwork. Summer meals fill the gap for kids, teens and families when school and afterschool meals are not available. Through the federal Summer Food Service Program and Seamless Summer Option, nonprofits and school districts can make sure that kids and teens are getting enough to eat during the summer break.

To find the nearest summer meal site near you, text FOOD or COMIDA to 304-304.

Serving Summer Meals

San Diego Hunger Coalition provides resources, tools, and free hands-on technical assistance for school districts and nonprofits to start serving or expand summer meals service. Our experienced team assesses financial feasibility, builds consensus amongst stakeholders (e.g. parents, board members, custodians), and helps districts with grant writing for start-up costs.

Interested in starting Summer Meals in your school, district, or afterschool program? Contact our Hunger Free Kids team for more information, technical assistance and hands-on support!
